Oxford Valley Mall Steps Up to Bring Halloween to Local Bucks County Communities

WHO: Oxford Valley Mall is hosting a special Halloween extravaganza.

WHAT: Mall-O-Ween is a mall-wide trick-or-treating event that provides an exciting, safe, weather-proof environment.

WHEN: Today, Oct. 31 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

WHERE: Oxford Valley Mall

              2300 Lincoln Highway

              Langhorne, PA 19047

WHY: With many area trick-or-treat nights canceled, Mall-O-Ween provides an opportunity for kids to still enjoy Halloween. "We decided to step up due to Hurricane Sandy's aftermath and allow kids to enjoy a safe haven for trick-or-treating in our mall, rather than walking through local neighborhoods which may have downed trees and power lines that could impact safety”, said Jim Malervy, director of mall marketing. Mall-O-Ween begins in the upper level jcpenney court, and all participants will receive special goodie bags there. Additional stores will be handing out treats throughout the mall.

First, I would like to commend Oxford Valley Mall and all of the stores for being so thoughtful and for having their hearts in the right place. However, I would like to also state for the record that this event was poorly managed, because I understand it was utter chaos throughout the entire mall, and suggest the next time to make a public annoucnement to open trick or treating to the community kids that you have plenty of candy or hand outs for ALL of the kids. My children walked out of the mall highly disappointed because they did not get anything. Every store they went to turned them away because they ran out of candy or items that they were handing out. As I said, my children were very excited for the event but left upset, and hurt that they got dressed up and did not recieve not one item and were pushed around in the crowds. Please plan these type of events in an orderly fashion and able to handle the influx of visitors as well. If you would like to talk further, please reply to my comment I would like to speak with you further.

You have to remember that this event was in the wake of Super Storm Sandy. Many of the neighboring townships postponed their Halloween trick-or-treating, or outright cancelled it. Consequently far more people showed up than ever could have been imagined.

So, while there may not have been enough candy and trinkets to go around, without this event many kids would not be having Halloween, especially since the rescheduled date for the local townships are today - the day the noreaster storm hits.
