Essential information about the day ahead in Newtown.
1. It will be another clear, cool day today with sunny skies and high temperatures in the low 50s.
2. There will be a tree lighting tonight in Newtown Borough beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the firehouse on Liberty Street. Stick around after so the kids can meet Santa. The Santa House, also at the firehouse, will open after the lighting.
3. Tonight is Midnight Madness in Newtown Borough. Retailers will offer specials and deals and will stay open until midnight.
4. There will be a fundraiser tonight to benefit the First Night New Year's Eve celebration. The fundraiser starts at 8 p.m. at the Temperance House. A $20 entry fee includes food, beer/wine and a First Night button, which is worth $10.
5. Bucks County Community College's Wordsmiths Reading Series continues tonight with poets Martha Rhodes and Cheryl Baldi. The free event begins at 7:30 p.m. on the Newtown Campus.
