8 Arrested During DUI Checkpoint on Bypass [Updated]

Police said 8 subjects were arrested for DUI recently.

Police arrested 8 people as part of a sobriety checkpoint held on the Newtown Bypass on Friday, August 31.

Of the 8 people arrested for DUI, 2 were related to drugs, police said.

The checkpoint was held on the Bypass between State Street and Buck Road.

Patch user B. Walker reported that he passed through the checkpoint at around 2 a.m. Walker estimated that there was between 12 and 15 authorities manning the checkpoint.

Township police worked in cooperation with officers from the borough, Buckingham, Lower Makefield and New Hope on the checkpoint. Civilian support staff from the public works and police department also assisted, according to a post on the department's Facebook page.

The overtime cost to the Newtown Township Police Department will be reimbursed by Bucks County, police reported.

An earlier story on the checkpoint garnered a lively convesation in the story's comment section.

I wonder how many people were pulled over, just curious as to the ratio of people stopped to the number arrested.
