Barn and Maze at Tyler Park Demolished
The effort to save the barn and maze play area was unsuccessful. The state moved forward with the demolition of the play area at Tyler State Park.
Despite an effort to save it, the Barn and Maze play area at Tyler State Park has been demolished.
In 2011, Tyler State Park officials and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources agreed to save the play area with the help of community contributions. The DCNR even established a fundraising account with the Pennsylvania Parks and Forestry Foundation to accept donations in support of the effort.
But this winter, the state moved forward with the demolition after the $30,000 needed to save it was not raised.
The Barn and Maze play area existed for at least 40 years before it was demolished.
Newtown Township Supervisor Rob Ciervo, who spearheaded the effort to rebuild the play area, said he isn't giving up on making that area a place for kids.
"I am still attempting to work with a local boy scout troop to perhaps rebuild a new maze," Ciervo said. "It would be a good Eagle Scout project."
