Beneficial Bank Hearing To Resume Wednesday
The bank is seeking conditional use approval to construct a branch with three drive-through windows at the site of the former Stockburger showroom on Sycamore Street.
The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors will continue a Conditional Use hearing Wednesday for an application to put a Beneficial Bank on Sycamore Street.
The hearing is being continued from last month, when the supervisors reviewed the issue at two separate meetings.
The most recent continuance came at the suggestion of Bradford Lare, an attorney for the Sycamore Street Community Association. Lare said the association’s traffic engineer wanted the opportunity to look over the applicant’s testimony related to traffic.
The bank is seeking to construct a branch with three drive-through windows at the site of the former Stockburger showroom on Sycamore Street. The applicant has proposed facing the bank towards Richboro Road and 7-11.
That positioning has irked some township officials, who say the plan as proposed is contrary to the vision for that part of town.
Last month, Newtown Township’s Planning Commission recommended that the Board of Supervisors deny the Conditional Use application for the proposal. The commission took the stance based on issues with the site configuration and the fact that it is inconsistent with the township’s vision for that portion of town.
The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Township Administration building. Click here to view the full agenda.

we need something on that corner. Windows are being broken in rear of the building. Could this be another decaying building for our township?

Why do we need yet ANOTHER bank in this town. Give me a break. Can't we put something nice there for the community to use instead of another bank, over-priced store, trendy eatery or pharmacy? This beautiful town is becoming so commercialized, it's beginning to lose its charm.

Joey,
Somewhere, people have been saying to get the government out of lives. Let business grow. Now your mad about developing an abandon building? No matter what goes at the location nobody will be happy. So let business be develop. So how about squeezing in a Wawa or Bike Line or TGI Friday's, or Pizza Uno's, or Hooter's or another gas station? Beneficial has ever right to build in regard to zoning of the area. The government can not tell business you can't build because the building is facing the wrong way. Or we have too many banks. How many zoning varices did green parrot or rite aid get to build?

Are the "wants" zoning and or how they see the township? I remember one saying on this site that people do not say what should be built. A owner of business has the right to build with in the zoning of the parcel. The township in the pass has given variances
to those zoning laws. But then again lets have another decaying abandoned building in Newtown. How cares which direction a building is facing? So who walks down in that part of town? I can't speak for anybody else but I love to walk to walk from 7-11 to Lukoil every other evening...

I guess U R a Newtown bedroom person, than an actual person that LIVES/shops here.
Real Newtown citizens would rather not see ANOTHER Bank. But if they want to build it the way the Twp. would like to see it. As for abandoned buidings we can wait till' something better comes along.
The vision of Newtown's Sycamore street is at stake, if they don't like it stay over in Summit Square. Or are they afraid they might lose some money, cause' American Heritage Credit Union is in that shoping center now ?

Sycamore street want to be a shopping/Eating destination, alot like State Street, which is only a Block away. A walking destination, since Taxpayers money fixed up the street and sidewalks !

I agree that an owner can put up whatever type of business they want on their own property (but I wish it wasn't another bank), but like the Boro has with HARB, maybe Sycamore street can have a separate group that helps in making receommendations to applicants during the pre-development stage that helps both sides understand the long term goal of this area of town. This will help save time, money and hopefully reach end goal of making this street. in connection with Newtown Borough, a beautiful area for generations to come and not a hodge podge of random buidlings.

@ bobrodo, Sycamore Street has it's association that HAS a vision for that street, most people go to them before they go public with what they want to put there !
The bank did not, and does not care about what the assoc. wants, does not care about the improvements done to the ST., to make it pedestrian friendly, hired the best land development Attorney in bucks county to represent them, and shove what THEY want down everyones throat. That's why I say they R arrogant.
And then some bloggers complain, when U R not politicaly correct ! I speak the truth, if it hurts so be it !
