Burglar Targets Parked Car at the NAC, Police Say

Someone smashed the window of a car parked at the Newtown Athletic Club Tuesday morning and took a briefcase containing a wallet and personal items, police said.

Cars were damaged and one broken into Tuesday in separate incidents at two Newtown fitness clubs, Newtown Township Police said.

According to police, around 11 a.m., someone reported their car had been damaged and broken into while parked at the Newtown Athletic Club lot.  The victim told police he parked his car there around 9:30 a.m. that morning and when he returned, the window of his car had been smashed and his briefcase had been stolen. The victim told police the briefcase contained his wallet and numerous personal papers.

The security cameras in the club's lot did not show the area where the vehicle was parked, police said.

Then around 4:50 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to Optimal Fitness located on South Eagle Road after a man reported that someone had slashed two tires on his car.  The victim told police he did not see anyone suspicious or have any idea who caused the damage.

The NAC has a sign at its front desk instructing all members to keep their valuables in their cars, which I think basically encourages car break-ins.

We are very sorry this happened. Our sign is meant to remind members that their valuables are safer in their car, but in the trunk of their car, where they are not accessible by breaking windows. We will make sure the sign is specific.

If you break a car window, then you can access the trunk latch, in most cars, to open the trunk...

Their has been more and more burglaries in this area, maybe the Police should be looking on the south side of the By-Pass around the summit area.

Where do you pretend to be from West Side Story? ...oh, no I get it Chcago! We'll ya better get a hold of Mindy and return to Kansas. What the police should do is teach you how to take a grown up pill.

The NAC should have the lot equipped with cameras to catch the thieves.

Surely the NAC could spend the money on more cameras. Millions for a new pool and not much to protect the members.
