Conditional Use Hearing For Bank Continued Again
Monday's Conditional Use Hearing for a Beneficial Bank on Sycamore Street had been continued from Wednesday. The hearing will resume Dec. 7.
A Conditional Use hearing on an application to put a Beneficial Bank on Sycamore Street was continued again by the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors on Monday.
The hearing, which had been continued from Wednesday, will resume Dec. 7.
The continuance came at the suggestion of Bradford Lare, an attorney for the Sycamore Street Community Association. Lare said the association’s traffic engineer wanted the opportunity to look over the applicant’s testimony related to traffic.
The bank is seeking to construct a branch with three drive-through windows at the site of the former Stockburger showroom. The applicant has proposed facing the bank towards Richboro Road and 7-11.
That positioning has irked some township officials, who say the plan as proposed is contrary to the vision for that part of town.
Last week, Newtown Township’s Planning Commission recommended that the Board of Supervisors deny the Conditional Use application for the proposal. The commission took the stance based on issues with the site configuration and the fact that it is inconsistent with the township’s vision for that portion of town.

Take your money out of Beneficial Bank, if they don't want to build the bank the way the township would like to see it !

Don't understand why everyone doesn't bank with a community bank! Keep it local.

Just what Newtown needs, another bank. I can't be the only one that hasn't walked into a bank in years (probably 15+ yrs). Prime Newtown real estate taken up by institutions that people (physically) use less and less. Does that make sense?

We don't need another bank, we have great local banks, Why not small retail businesses and restaurants, I would like to see a upscale diner myself.

Great local banks and plenty of national banks. You have my vote for an upscale diner.
