Did You Feel the Earthquake?

An earthquake starting in Virginia was felt in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Washington, D.C. and Maryland.

A magnitude 5.9 earthquake started in Virginia at 1:51 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Shakes were felt in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, D.C. and New York, according to CNN.

Fox News reported that most of downtown D.C. including the U.S. Capitol and the Pentagon has been evacuated, as well as the FBI building in New York. No injuries or damage have been reported.

Before news sources could confirm the earthquake, twitter was bombarded with tweets of users feeling the earth shake:

I didn't feel anything here in Wrightstown Township, but relatives from Newtown Township did feel shaking. My mom said her whole house shook.

Also felt it in our office in Trevose. I thought a heavy wind came by, then the shaking really picked up and ceiling tiles started moving

I felt it in Southampton and saw lights in my apartment shake. My dog barked (rare) and I didn't know it was an earthquake until it was over.

Neither of my phones (ATT and T-Mobile) are working, but luckily the internet is still working!

What other issues are you experiencing?

My entire apartment shook!!! I remember experiencing an earthquake in central Pennsylvania more than 15 years ago -- much smaller on the Richter scale though.

I was in my car parked near the corner of Street and Hulmeville roads. I was on my phone and felt my car sway back and forth. I checked my gear shifter to see if I accidentally left it in "drive." Realized when I turned on the radio that it was an earthquake.

Great I just watched a show on Iron Mountain document storage and how their main facility is located in PA because it's earthquake free! Well so much for that!
One plus...Obama's golf game was not disrupted at all!

How can you joke at a time like this? I don't get it.

A little humor at a time like this isn't a bad thing considering the quake was little more than a aftershock in our area. Besides who hasn't had some bad food and felt the earth shake under their feet.

My couch shook for like three seconds in Horsham, PA. I just assumed someone fell. If my brother had not come in a few minutes later and told me it was an earthquake, I probably would have never thought of it again.

I was having a conversation with my neighboor, and watched as the houses across the street started to sway.

Resident said, " I think were all in trouble now."

Thankfully not the case.

Serious shaking in Horsham, @ first didn't think much of it as I live in close proximity to the base and and have grown accustomed to shaking, even when a garbage truck goes down my street it vibrates a bit. But, this vibration was definitely different and scary once I found out exactly what it was afterwards.

I was in Horsham having a quick lunch in the car when it felt like someone was pushing down on the bumper to rock the car.

Looking in the rear view mirror to see who was doing it, and seiing no one, my next thought was an earthquake. Sure enough 5 minutes later news reports started coming in over the radio.

My T-Mobile phone was out for hours.

We left D.C. less than an hour before quake on Amtrak after spending 3 nights there. Train was stopped for about 45 min as they were concerned about going over bridges and in tunnels. Felt nothing but we were on train.
