Donation Drive in Honor of Sandy Hook Victims to Benefit CT Animal Shelter
The Crossings Animal Sanctuary is holding a donation drive to benefit The Animal Center, a nonprofit animal rescue organization in Newtown, Conn.
The Crossings Animal Sanctuary is holding a donation drive this week in honor of two victims of last month’s shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The donation drive will benefit The Animal Center, a nonprofit animal rescue organization in Newtown, Conn.
The idea for the donation drive came from a request made by the family of Catherine Hubbard, one of the children killed in the school shooting. The Hubbard family asked that donations in their daughter’s memory be made to The Animal Center.
In addition to honoring the memory of Catherine Hubbard, the donation drive is also in memory of Benjamin Wheeler, a 6-year-old victim. Benjamin’s mother, Francine Lobis Wheeler, is a graduate of Council Rock High School.
The Animal Center wish list includes the following items: Towels (paper and cloth), dog leashes, cat litter, Wellness kitten health cat food, Wellness canned cat food, Purina One Healthy Kitten Formula, Wellness Healthy Weight dry cat food, garbage bags, dog and cat collars, Advantix for 9 lb and heavier cats and Friskies canned cat food.
The Crossings Animal Sanctuary office is located at 1098 Washington Crossing Road (corner of Taylorsville Road and Rt. 532).
Items will be collected between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday. (Call the office at (215) 321-4673 before dropping off a donation.) A truck will depart for Connecticut on Saturday morning.
Monetary donations are also being collected, as are cards and letters to the families. Checks should be made payable “The Animal Center.”
