Sandy Causes Downed Trees, Power Outages in Newtown
A downed tree has closed Penn Street and the stop lights at Court and State streets are blinking.
With with worst of Sandy over, Newtown residents emerged from lock down Tuesday morning to assess the damage, which included many downed trees and debris in the roadways.
A downed tree closed a portion of Penn Street between Congress and Chancellor streets. Many other downed trees could be found on lawns.
Much of Newtown Borough has lost power, with as many as 1,500 PECO customers affected by the storm.
As a result, businesses on State Street are without power and many street lights are blinking. A temporary stop sign has been put up at Court and State streets.
PECO said it would not be able to provide restoration estimates until after 4 p.m. today.
