For Many, Power Returning in Newtown

Thousands are still without power in Newtown but some neighborhoods reported restoration Wednesday.

The lights came on for many Newtown residents Wednesday but thousands in the area are still without power due to Hurricane Sandy.

As of Wednesday night, PECO reported there were less than 3,500 customers in the township without power and as many as 1,500 in the borough without electricity.

But for many, power came back Wednesday night, including for residents in Newtown Grant and Newtown Walk.

According to State Rep. Steve Santarsiero, PECO is estimating they will have 90 percent of outages in Newtown back online by Friday. The remaining 10 percent will be completed over the weekend, he said. "Hopefully there will be restorations sooner than that," he added.

Santarsiero added PECO has brought in crews from out of state to complete the restoration process.

Did you get power back? Tell us in the comments.

Newtown Gate got power back last night! I would assume Penns Trail would be on also. We are thankful to have it back, as temperature dropped yesterday, thanks to all the workers who made that happen. I hope the rest of you join us today with power back, Merchants down on State Street are losing a lot of money without power again today!

I'm one of those merchants, sorry to say. Very frustrating, but in Jersey many businesses are out of power AND flooded or destroyed. We'll make it, it will help if locals make it a point to spend their money in Newtown in the coming weeks. We'd all appreciate it.

There are a number of trucks from Florida working on Lurgan late today. They were only clearing the lines of trees to allow others to follow behind with the actual repair work. The team was clear there would be no power back there today.

Reading above and to add further, our community in wash xing is 100% dependant on electricity and no gas lines. Prioritizing last by PECO does not make sense

Get used to it. After this is over Peco knows that we will get on with life and not do a thing about it. We are an easy bunch. Enjoy the colds and coughs the young kids get now.,

Power still out in Wrightstown (Wycombe). Tree laying on power lines for days and no sign of PECO after reporting it a few times. Was estimated to receive power tonight but nothing has changed. Zero communication.
