Gas Prices Rise Slightly in New Year

Find the cheapest gas in Newtown.

The average price of self-serve regular in Bucks and Montgomery rose about 2.1 cents since last week, which is still 13.3 cents lower than last month but 12.6 cents higher than last year, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report.

The price per gallon nationally is also up – by about 4.4 cents – since last week. The national average price of gasoline in 2012 was $3.60 a gallon, which was the most expensive annual average on record. The previous annual record was $3.51 a gallon set in 2011, while the third most expensive year for gas prices was 2008, when the average was $3.25 a gallon.

While the “fiscal cliff” deal in Washington could pressure gasoline prices higher to begin 2013, it is unlikely that this increase would be on par with a year ago, according to the report. Continued economic concerns, weak demand and increased domestic crude oil production are likely to temper any seasonal price increase in the coming months.

Locally, the cheapest price for regular is $3.65 at Kerrigan Sunoco.
