Mysterious Signs Appear at Wrightstown Polling Place
Two large signs reading "Please Have Your Photo ID Ready" were placed at the Anchor Run church polling place.
Update: As of 4 p.m. the sign was still up.
OUTSIDE PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Two large signs reading "Please Have Your Photo ID Ready" in all capital letters and neon coloring were placed at a local polling place, despite the fact that an ID is not required to vote in this election.
However, no one is taking responsibility for putting up the signs, which were placed at the entry to the polling line in Wrightstown Township.
For instant update, follow Newtown Patch on Facebook and Twitter.
Susan Schino, of the Wrightstown Democrats, said when she arrived at 7 a.m. to the polls, the two signs were highly visible to voters. Some voters, she said, were getting out of line because they didn't bring an ID.
Schino said she asked the judge of elections who had put the signs up and he said he didn't know. "He had a worker make a little sign to put in the corner," she said. The little, blue letters on the small sign read: "You may vote without ID if you are registered."
Schino said the judge of elections said the poll workers did not bring the signs. Schino said no one at the polling location admitted to putting the signs up, however, they still stood as of 10 a.m. despite the confusion.

It prevents voter fraud! How about you go to vote and they say "sorry you already voted" then everyone is up in arms, right? Yes it's not required but you should be outraged that people don't bring I'd to vote. Do you bring it to drive in your car to get there???

It does no such thing, the law will not stop voter fraud, this law was to disfranchise voters. The total number of voter ID fraud was determined to be 4 in the past 10 years. that is nationally!

You are exactly right. I always take my Voter Card & my ID so they know it is in FACT ME.. It has been on the News that you need ID so there is no Voter Fraud. that's probably why the signs are up. Maybe some some states are doing it & some aren't so they were going with what they heard. I'd rather be safe & have my ID..

This is the only election in the past 19 years that my husband has not been told," You can't vote today since we show you have already voted by asentee ballot." He has never voted by absenteeism since I have been with him. Their response is, "well, you can do a provissional ballot. At least it will cancel out whoever voted for you." Like that is comforting. That is a very clear case of voter fraud.

Besides people who have not voted at that site prior do have to show ID. Who drives there without a license? These people getting out of line, did they walk or ride their bike?
THis will all be settled after this year when people are required to show ID, as it should be.

Maybe they did walk or ride a bike. Not everyone drives. It's a misleading sign that seems to be there to confuse or trick people. A sign indicating one is needed for first time voters would've been fine. This is wrong and should be taken down. It's that simple. Save the sign for the next election when the law goes into effect.

Speaking of bikes. An older gentleman poll worker at my precinct had a little suprise for voters there. He rode his bike to work. Parked it at the front door to where you had to walk around it to get in. On the childseat on the back of the bike was a very big sticker that read "Let's do it Again – Obama 2012". I protested it immediately. It was removed immediately. Then the old codger told me someone complained about his bike because of the sticker. I told hell yeah they did and I was one of them. Some people will try anything.

Are you saying that "the poor, minority, old and afflicted (that's what you meant), who walked, rode a bus, or were transported by someone else (that's what you meant)" too dumb or lazy to get an ID? When they cash a check, use a credit card, or do any number of things, don't they have to show an ID? If I'm a poll worker, and you claim your Mr. or Ms. X, and you live at whatever address you claim, isn't it reasonable to ask you to verify your claim by showing some valid ID so you can exercise your civic responsibility? I think it is.

@Bob B- my Mom passed away last December at the age of 85. She never drove in her life, so she had no driver's license. She also never applied for PA's photo ID- didn't have ANY ID that included her picture. Yet she was able to collect Social Security, have a bank account, credit cards, receive medical care, etc. The voter ID law in PA was rushed into effect in order to stop people likely to vote for President Obama from voting, Fortunately, the courts ruled that there was not enough time to allow everyone to have the ID needed, so it will not be in effect for THIS election.

When they first started requiring government issued idea to fly, I almost couldn't get home. I used my company photo ID to fly to NYC for a business meeting. When it came time to go home, I was told that that was not acceptable -- I must have a government issued ID. Since I don't drive, I didn't have a license and my Sheriff's ID wasn't acceptable either.. So, there I was in LaGuardia airport in my business suit with my briefcase and my return ticket .... but no acceptable ID. I find it somewhat disconcerting that the poll judge, or someone else in authority, didn't have the common sense to simply remove the signs. Also, when I went to vote at 7 am this morning, I had to stand in line of ticked off voters for 40 minutes because the poll judge didn't show up, and whoever was second in command didn't know who to call for instructions. I was happy to provide my ID when asked this morning in LA. Even if I did not drive and have a license, I'd just get a state ID. How else would I open a bank account, cash a check, get a job, fly, purchase alcohol or anything else people need ID to do? They even ask for ID at the hospital when you seek treatment at the ER. A state ID is inexpensive (anywhere from free to $30... highest in Oregon but good for 8 years). In my state they are free to anyone 60+. The point here is that it is NOT the law and an ID is NOT required in PA- so the sign should have been taken down. It does not matter how you feel about showing an ID- it is not the law. There really are people who don't drive, fly, buy alcohol, need to open a bank account (there are those who opened it when they had an ID- 40 yrs ago...), you don't need an ID to DEPOSIT a check or one to use an ATM to get the money out.

The good news is that such an upstanding citizen will have no problem with getting their ID and showing it because they will want to make sure no one is casting their ballot for them. And if they've been around that long, they will qualify for the free ID in most states. (By the way, you still need an ID to pay with a check or even debit card in many places.)

You need an ID to go to the hospital, buy cigerattes, buy beer. You need an ID to get a job so that you can pay your bills and taxes... why on earth not require ID to prove you are LEGALLY allowed to vote? The excuse that voter fraud is miminal is silly. How do you know it's miminal? There is no real way to prove or disprove it. Requiring ID does not mean you need a Drivers license. I don't drive but I have a state ID card. Cost me $7.50. All people would have to do is get an ID card like that if they don't have a drivers license and bam.. they can vote. Since elections are only ever 2 years and 4 years for Presidents.. plenty of time to get one before elections. ID should be required since we have laws about who can and who can't vote to ensure that the person voting is who they say they are and legally able to vote.

Picture ID, in Illinois, unless you are a senior citizen, cost something like $30.00 for a four year period adnd then must be renewed for another $30.00.

First I agree the sign is a phony and anyone looking at it should recognize that. And to the people who walk I apologize, but here in Newtown with this cold weather I don't think we had many walkers or bicyvle riders. And. you do need an ID to vote in Pa, if you had not voted at that location previously.
I still am looking forward to next time because people should be required to have an ID to execute such a important responsibility as voting!
Enough of the personal attacks already!

I have 3 children voting for the first time this year. All three are REQUIRED to show valid id to vote because it is their first time voting in our polling place. When we moved here 10 years ago, I had to show valid ID to vote for the first time at this polling place. It has never been required since. They asked for ID today, but you could vote if you did not have it. They gave you a slip of paper about voter ID if you did not have an ID with you. IF YOU HAVE TO HAVE ID TO VOTE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A POLLING PLACE, THEN WHY CAN YOU NOT HAVE ID EVERY TIME?? Seriously, what is the matter with you people? I needed ID to pick up a prescription the other day. If you don't have it, get it. You have a year to do so.

Everyone needs to get off their soapbox about whether or not ID should be required to vote. The story here is that a sign was posted in a state that passed a voter ID law but is not yet in effect. This has created an environment of confusion and a greater chance of voter disenfranchisement and/or suppression.

THERE is a RIGHT TO VOTE---Respect the right to vote for ALL, the Constitution does discuss the right to votes, here are quote from the 19th Amendment:
USCS Const. Amend. 19, § 1
Sec. 1. [Woman suffrage.]
The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.

It's amazing that people still think it is appropriate to vote for the people who will be leading us without showing any kind of ID. Picture ID is the best, but a voter's registration card is the best. In fact, both should have to be shown in order to vote for president of the country. Only registered citizens should be allowed to have this honor, not illegals, not non-citizens, not those barred for certain reasons, and definitely not be able to vote more than once. My goodness, i have to show my license in order to stay at a hotel (or another type of ID), show my license at stores when I go to use my credit card, show an ID and have a credit card to rent a car, etc. And some people, and many in high political positions, do not think it is necessary to have ID in order to vote. What is wrong with this picure?

EVEN republicans who created the additional demands of Voters ID admit voter fraud does not exist in any meaningful part...
McCain Strategist Admits Voter Fraud ‘Doesn’t Really Exist’
By Igor Volsky on Nov 5, 2012 at 10:46 am
Steve Schmidt, a former senior strategist to Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) 2008 presidential campaign, admitted that widespread voter fraud doesn’t exist in the United States and claimed that the GOP-backed voter ID laws are based on “mythology.” Read the whole story:

Is there a problem....REALLY?.....Since 2000, there has been about one case of voter impersonation per every 15 million votes cast, according to a report from ProPublica, and even proponents of voter ID have struggled to identify cases of fraud. Meanwhile, state-based efforts forcing voters to produce picture identifications could disproportionately disenfranchise minorities who typically vote for Democratic candidates.

Second Voter ID laws do not correct any problem, and they do not prevent any real evil...voter fraud really does not exist and providing an ID does not cure a problem--- how many people have successfully used IDs to drink underage...its a distraction... the true purpose is voter disenfranchisement... thats wrong... thats what we should be looking into...the votes actually cast that are not counted

Take the blasted sign DOWN ... don't add a postage stamp to an incorrect billboard. This is a BLATANT attempt to keep people who might not have a driver's license (i.e.; poor ... who are likely to vote Democratic) from voting! People in the whole area should be ashamed, if not humiliated.

Kara, thank you so much for advocating online tonight, what we need to advocate going forward after the election, our economy will rebound, our country will be safe...those things are well established, but this dialogue is concerning, and we need to bring everyone together for the mission of all of US... So vote today, root tonight, but come together soon behind our President.

Well, looks like another 4 years of...nothingness. I supported Obama in his first term, until I realized that he was a "do nothing" President. Now we will have a lame duck President and nothing changes. As I watch everyone on TV cheer and celebrate, I have to wonder for what they are cheering and celebrating. There will be no "coming together" because this is a divided country and Obama is not qualified to bring about the coming together needed. Instead, what we will get, is more of the same: Obama will try to do something; the Republicans we rebuke it; Obama will crawl off to the White House and do nothing. When you have two candidates who are only concerned with the middle-class and no one else-you will get no where. And folks...that is exactly what we are getting for another four years. So much for, "Forward!"
