New Newtown Salon Goes All Organic
Owner Candis Krzaczyk is going green in her products, services and the rest of her life.
From the laundry detergent to the paint on the walls, Sycamore Salon is the first all-organic, environmentally friendly option in Newtown.
The salon, which opened in November of last year, is owned and run by Candis Krzaczyk. Her 18 years of experience in the area and newfound "green" attitude led her to open a business that reflects a cleaner, more pure lifestyle in every aspect.
"Skin is the largest organ in the body," Krzaczyk said, adding that's why it's important to be careful about what goes on it.
The harmful products and chemicals in hair color and other treatments are exactly what she wants to avoid, which is why all the haircare products at Sycamore Salon are organic, vegan and approved by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). Instead of using chemicals, the heat from the dryer opens the cuticles to allow the hair dye to set and also works like a hot oil treatment, she said.
Krzaczyk said she wants to be careful about what drains into the waterlines in Newtown, which is another reason why she put in her own water system that's more efficient.
The 119-year-old shelves holding products from the Neuma, Organic Hair Systems and Onesta lines are remants from the barn that stood on the premises years ago, but the salon also has a modern component that Krzaczyk designed herself.
"I said, 'Let's see how much further I can go with this.' I used to be a smoker, now I'm a runner," she said. She's also eating better food and is more consciencious about her entire lifestyle.
As far as customers, Krzaczyk said she's been lucky to bring some clients along with her and everyone who's come in has had a positive experience.
"The proof is in the pudding," she said. "They feel a huge difference."
The salon is open Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m to 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Krzaczyk is currently looking to hire another stylist to add to her team as well.
