The Community of Newtown Gate would like to have their Halloween on Saturday November 3rd.

I suggest moving trick or treating to this Friday at 6. Hopefully we will have power by then and the weather looks much better.

That is the suggested timeframe by Newtown Borough PD. I think they're just trying to get everyone on the same page so it can be an enjoyable holiday for the children.

I would like to Thank Mayor O'Brian for making a definitive decision. I don't belive anyone is suggesting that Halloween is more important than the devastation and in some cases tragedy that has occured in the northeast. The community is simply looking for leadership so that everyone is on the same page with safety in mind. I personally don't want the confusion of kids showing up at my door tonight, Friday, Saturday and next Wednesday trick or treating. Thanks again Mayor O'Brian for the clarification.

Thank goodness for the police. Why is it that municipal employees care more about the kids than our elected officials? Vote for new leaders next week. Ours don't care enough about our children

Agree with Jim and thanks for keeping childrens safety in mind. I will be doubling up on candy as I am sure we will have more than normal but well worth it as that is what makes this community so special.

Newtown Township areas that have power may Trick or Treat as planned tonight:)

Really stupid idea. How about everyone move to next weds. Don't they understand some neighborhoods have power on one side and not the other. Come on!

We have power, we count ourselves very lucky. So, we will be handing out treats both nights. What the heck - the kids are cute and we love seeing them.

Yeah Council Rock announced that those with power can trick or treat. Confusion as half our street is in the Borough and half in the Township. We are moving forward tonight with Halloween and again next week.

We were overwhelmed with trick or treaters that came to our neighborhood because theirs didn't have power. We had to go out and get more candy when we thought there might only be a few. Then to have more come next week? I wish everybody was on the same page.

@ mike , agree with you ... It should be the same night in the Boro and township .. I think its to confusing to have it saturday in one place and Wed in another that are so close ... Who is in charge ??

I would like to know who is running in Newtown township as our " mayor" or elected officials ! New to area and would like some honest input ...

Hi Elle. In Newtown borough, the Mayor is Dennis O'Brien. There is a also a Borough Council. In Newtown Township, there is no mayor but there is an elected five-person Board of Supervisors. The Chairman of that board is Mike Gallagher. In the township, there is also a Township Manager, Kurt Ferguson. He is not elected and rather hired by the township supervisors. He oversees the township's administrative functions and reports to the supervisors.

Following the request of the Mayor, Chief of Police and Boro Council I kept my kids in last night. All night long we had trick or treaters coming to our despite this request and despite the fact much of the Boro is still without power, trees and wires are still down. The mixed message sent from the township officials got everyone very mixed up. Will I have kids trick or treating here in Newtown Boro all week? There should have been an all for one and one for all decision made.

People have to understand that Halloween is not a national holiday. It is a community event that should be guided by what the parents think is best for their kids. Government should provide guidance as to if they think it is safe to go out but I think it's ridiculous to call on gov't officials to "make a decision" about if there is going to be Trick-or-Treat.

I think the focus is misled. Officials are debating when to celebrate halloween rather than when to get the power back on. I am in the boro and still with no power. Businesses have lost 4 days of business and how bout their employees that work to pay bills? Well i mean they dont feel the need to plow the roads when it snows either. On top of this if u live and work in newtown u r double taxed bc apparantly this is a priviledge... really? To have no power and unplowed roads?!
