A 48-year-old Newtown man is facing several charges in connection with the assault of a 14-year-old girl, authorities reported Thursday.

Jay Colton, of Brookdale Drive in Newtown Township, was arrested Wednesday at around 7:15 p.m. at his home on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, endangering the welfare of a child, recklessly endangering another and harassment by striking, shoving, or kicking.

The 14-year-old victim, whose name and relationship to Colton are not being disclosed, went to Saint Mary Medical Center in Middletown Tuesday evening with injuries to her arm, leg and buttocks. After being assessed by medical personnel, police were called to investigate the matter, police said.

The victim and her mother reported to authorities the injuries were caused by Colton.

If the facts of this case are true then throw the book at the man. To have this happen in this day of age is despicable.

The 14-year-old girl is my niece. They had not been getting along, but that isn't an excuse to commit assault.
