Police: Napping Man Charged With Disorderly Conduct
Kevin Shan, 20, was charged with disorderly conduct after he entered a random car and decided to take a snooze.
It’s not uncommon to get sleepy during work, particularly on a rainy Monday. But one local employee took his desire for a nap one step too far – and got caught by police.
Shortly after 11:30 a.m. Monday, Newtown Township Police were dispatched to a business located within the 800 block of Newtown-Yardley Road for a report of an unknown male in the caller’s vehicle.
When officers responded, they located the subject, 20-year-old Kevin Shan of Lancaster Avenue in Philadelphia. Shan, who is an employee of a nearby business, told the officers that he was tired and wanted to take a nap. He admitted to police that he did not have permission to be in the car and in fact did not know who the owner of the car was.
Police told Shan to leave the car and issued a citation charging him with disorderly conduct.
Also on Monday, police said a resident of Coachwood Court came to Headquarters around 10 a.m. to report that her green picnic umbrella was stolen from her back yard at some point after 8:30 p.m. on Saturday and was discovered missing Sunday around 12:30 p.m. The victim told police that the umbrella was attached to a table and had been unscrewed from the base.

Is taking a nap in a car illegal or is it the fact that it was someone else's car? I see people taking naps in cars ALL the time.

I would think he was issued a citation because he was in someone elses car napping. I would imagine the vehicle was unlocked or he broke in.

The Illuminati... I did not say I was ok with someone sleeping in a car. I said it is easier for a police officer to issue a citation when the napper admited he did wrong. As I mentioned in an earlier comment to Ellen, who thought napping in a car for anyone was illegal, He broke into a car, deserved the citation, admited he did it, and I would not be ok with some stranger being in my car napping.

I assume he either broke in or the car was left open, either way he did not belong in a car that was not his. Just my opinion. :)

Karen, I think the police would agree. That's why he was cited. Hopefully it's clear in the article. Sorry for the confusion everyone. I personally would be quite freaked out if I got to my car and someone was in there sleeping.
