Purina's National Dog Show Comes to Philly

The dog show will feature more than 150 different breeds competing for Best of Breed, First in Group and Best in Show.

Fall can be drab, so brighten up your life by getting out of dodge. Luckily, Philadelphia isn't too far away for fall fun—and our Fall in Philly feature can help guide you there.

If you feel like venturing out a little farther from home, check here for a weekly suggestion of something fun or interesting to do in the City of Brotherly Love. Whether it's a restaurant to try, a festival to attend or special museum exhibits, we'll feature something different every Thursday.

This Saturday and Sunday, The Kennel Club of Philadelphia hosts The National Dog Show at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center at Oaks. At the two-day event, more than 2,000 of the top sanctioned dogs from across the country will compete for best of Breed, First in Group and Best in Show.

Saturday is The National Dog Show Presented by Purina, which is taped for its Thanksgiving Day television broadcast. Then Sunday’s show offers canine competitions, enhanced athletic dog exhibitions and family-friendly activities. Both days of the dog show are benched, which means dogs not being shown in the competition will displayed so spectators, breeders, handlers and attendees can meet all of the dogs, ask questions and share information about the breeds.

If you can't make it to Philly, tune in to NBC at 12 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 24, for the broadcast of Saturday's dog show.

Does anyone know the poem that the announcer read about a dog? It was so touching. I have been trying to find something out about it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
