Reminder: Trailer Park Plans Not on Tonight's Agenda

A Planning Commission review of the plans for a 56-pad trailer park on the Newtown Swim Club property has been postponed.

Tonight's Newtown Township Planning Commission meeting will no longer include a review of the proposed trailer park on the Newtown Swim Club property.

That review has been postponed due to a scheduling conflict on the part of the applicant. Click here to view tonight's Planning Commission agenda.

John VanLuvanee, the attorney for applicant County Builders, contacted the township last week to request a continuance due to a scheduling conflict. The application has not been withdrawn; rather it will likely be reviewed in March.

A new date for has not yet been set, however the Planning Commission meetings in March are scheduled for the 5th and the 19th.

The township is still awaiting word from VanLuvanee regarding the probability of County Builders resubmitting plans for townhouses on the 16-acre property instead of a 56-pad trailer park.

According to Board of Supervisors Chairman Mike Gallagher, township solicitor Jeffrey Garton has reached out to County Builders to see if it would again consider a townhome plan instead of a trailer park. VanLuvanee is expected to respond within the next week or two, Gallagher said.

The application for a mobile home park was submitted in December after the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors voted to send its solicitor to the Zoning Hearing Board to defend the township's zoning regulations with regards to County Builders' 52-townhome proposal.

The townhome proposal required a variance because it exceeded the housing density permitted in that zoning district.

Board members Rob Ciervo, Matt Benchener and Phil Calabro voted in favor of sending the solicitor to represent the township. Since then, in response to the community’s outrage over the trailer park proposal, board member Matt Benchener said he would now support townhomes.

I think it's good. Folks could visit from all over, such as Pocono area, and spend weekends at the approved 4 acre NAC swim resort. Just like going to Nascar or Knobles. The board will vote on it because it benefits Worthington. Folks will buy their BBQ food from McCafferys. The board will definitely vote for it now!
Here you will see local politics in action at its best!

No, the real point is you are fortunate enough to live in a great community that attracts and holds investment due to its charm and quality of life. Sarcasm is your right but your real estate value and investment in the community is a serious topic.

Newtown is attracting younger, affluent, dual income residents. We should be smart about why they prefer our town over others across the river or just next door.

Good luck to the residents and hopefully the builder will be allowed to develop a project that is profitable for his company and benefits Newtown's look, feel, and tax receipts in a positive way for the long term.

There are many other means of generating tourist revenue while keeping our "charm"....but a trailer park isn't one of them.

Well stated Digital and part of keeping it a great community will be to insist that the developers enhance the community while making their $$$. This means responsible development and those developers that don't want to do it that way should hit the road. There are plenty of developers interested in getting the land to do a project. Maybe Platt would be better off $$$ to seek a more responsive developer.

Good people live everywhere , including trailer parks. When I'm walking my dogs down State Street or at Tyler we meet lots of friendly locals. When hanging at Starbucks and striking up a conversation it makes no difference if they live in a Condo or Million Dollar property, isn't Newtown known to be a Friendly place?

don't be silly, BringItOn. In order to use a railroad car, you first need to know what a railroad is
