Rufus and DeeDee are Newtown’s Top Dogs
With 28 entries and dozens of votes over three weeks, the photo of Rufus and DeeDee is voted Newtown’s Top Dog.
Newtown Patch readers picked Rufus and DeeDee as the Top Dog in our photo contest.
Rufus, on the right in the picture, is a 6-year-old pug. DeeDee, a pug-French bulldog mix, was a Christmas gift to Virginia and Vernon Hartman of Newtown. The dog was a gift from their son, who got DeeDee from a family that could no longer care for her.
“The girls go everywhere together and always stop traffic during our walks in Tyler Park,” Virginia says. “Rufus and Dee are lively little bundles of unconditional love and support, true companion dogs. I cannot imagine being without them.”
Voters picked Rufus and DeeDee from 28 entries, with Elphie providing close competition.
As the winner, Rufus and DeeDee now move on to represent Newtown in the next round of voting in a regional contest of Bucks and Montgomery County canines.
Wish Rufus and DeeDee luck.
We’ll start the voting for the regional contest on July 9; look for it.

Total bogus contest. They won with like 5 votes all from family and friends. I would be embarassed to win this contest like that.

Such sour grapes, Kathleen....contests like these serve as a marketing tools to promote awareness of online publications such as The Patch. Check out the rules...the more people that go on to vote, be they friends, family, or assorted aquaintances from social media networking, read the articles and advertisements and help support these publications. Some people work harder at it than others.

Agreed with Kathleen. Social media sheep is all this world is anymore.
These dogs look like they are copulating, probably to produce more odd looking offspring.
