Multiple Accidents, Traffic Jams Caused by Snow, Police Say
Overnight snow that continued through the morning created messy travel conditions throughout the area.
Overnight snow caused messy driving conditions Friday morning, resulting in accidents, cars off the roadways and traffic jams.
Newtown Township police reported multiple accidents and vehicles off the roadways. Specifics on all the incidents weren't immediately available. However, police said a tractor trailer went off the road on Second Street Pike near Swamp Road causing a backup of traffic.
Route 532 (Washington Crossing Road) was also closed for a period of time in the morning because a car lost control and went into a ditch.

Route 413 was backed up for miles, from Pine Lane in Wrightstown to Newtown Elementary School.
Traffic was also backed up at Goodnoe Elementary School, where a line of cars waiting to drop off children snarled traffic along Frost Lane.
Council Rock School District opened on time. However, buses had trouble making it into school on time, Superintendent Mark Klein said in an email.
"The snow fall this morning is causing significant delays in bus transportation for Council Rock Schools. Parents of Elementary Students should expect delays this morning as we manage difficult roads and weather conditions," a district email said.

Mr. Klein made a very poor decision. 8 cars jammed and multiple car crashes. Hope he realizes the school can get sued for this. There was no
Way people should have been driving let alone high schoolers.

Nancy...those bridges are PennDot highways, not Twp roads. Demand answers from PennDot, not Northampton as they are not responsible for snow plowing those roadways.

I think a better question is why can't people drive in bad weather any more? When I was kid we didn't have delays for 1-2 inch snow storms and hardly anyone had 4x4s. We made it to school just fine in a rear wheel drive Torino. Perhaps people need to reeducated on how to drive in the snow.

The Illuminati- the weather posed a hazard to students and teacher and bus drivers commuting to school. It's not that they don't know how to drive. It's that the weather was so bad it caused slower and more cautious driving.

That is ridiculous to say the township isn't responsible for treating the roads when it snows. If they cant do it, they need to make sure it is done. I saw a township salt truck on 332 this morning after the roads were already bad. The township cops are the ones out there dealing with the wrecks. And yes, people don't know how to drive in bad weather and there are way more cars on the road than when we grew up.

Nancy...you don't have believe me, but it doesn't change the fact that PennDot is responsible for state roads. 532, 332 and 232 are state highways, hence the reason they have route numbers. Township trucks are responsible to plow township roads. Township trucks sometimes have to travel on state roads to get across the Twp. So...it is not ridiculous. It is fact. PennDot plows 232, 332, and 532, not Northampton!

Molly...with all due respect, have you seen the way people drive nowadays on dry roadways let alone when it snows? People can't drive.
