Steeple View Update Expected at Wednesday's Council Meeting
Newtown Borough Council's monthly work session meeting is Wednesday at 7 p.m.
An update on the Steeple View project is expected at Wednesday's Newtown Borough Council work session meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. at Borough Hall.
The conditional use process for Steeple View, a major mixed-use development in Newtown Borough formerly known as Stocking Works II, has stalled. Developer Allan Smith is seeking to construct 121 condos, 40,904 square feet of commercial space and below and above ground parking at the former Stockburger Chevrolet site off South State Street.
A hearing that was postponed from February has yet to be rescheduled.
Borough Council opened the hearing in December and it resumed in January. The hearing was scheduled to continue again in February but was cancelled until March. The March hearing was then also cancelled and was supposed to resume in April.
Also on Wednesday, Council member John Burke is expected to offer an update on the status of the Newtown Corporation.
The agenda also includes discussion of a police car purchase and authorization to pre-purchase road salt. Click here to view the full agenda.

The plan with the fountain and open space is my favorite. Newtown needs a better place to gather than the benches in front of Starbucks.
