Township, Borough Under State of Emergency

Both Newtown Township and Newtown Borough are under a "State of Emergency" due to Hurricane Sandy.

Newtown Borough and Newtown Township are both under a State of Emergency due to Hurricane Sandy. Wrightstown and Upper Makefield are also under a State of Emergency.

That means all non-essential traffic is requested to stay off the roadways.

Newtown Borough posted the announcement on its website Monday. See the PDF attached to this article to read the full declaration.

Newtown Township Board of Supervisors Chairman Mike Gallagher said Monday morning he had just signed the declaration. He said while the township can't close the roads, people should stay off them if possible in the interest of safety.

PECO says it could be days for all power in the area to be restored. The best bet for information regarding your home and street is to call PECO's outage line at 1-800-841-4141. Once you input your phone number to access your account, it should give you an estimated time for restoration.

I work in healthcare, but not a hospital. My work is holdin it against me for not coming in. Is that allowed while we are under a state of emergency? I live in Wrightstown. they are writing me up for calling out today. They said weather is not an acceptable call out. Please advise someone :(
