Township Dedicates Veterans Park

Newtown Veterans Park is located off Route 413 across the street from Clark Nature Center.

Years of planning and hard work culminated Saturday as the township dedicated  Newtown Veterans Park, located off of Route 413 across the street from Clark Nature Center.

The park features a Veterans Memorial and six ball fields, three of which are baseball fields, the others multi-purpose fields. Each one is named after a branch of the military. As each field was dedicated, Council Rock North's Band played the theme song for that branch.

In addition to the residents that attended the dedication ceremony, members of the township's Board of Supervisors, Parks and Recreation Board, and Newtown American Legion Post 440 were also at the celebration.

Also present was Ryan Varian, a 15 year old Newtown resident and Eagle Scout candidate. He coordinated the fundraising and installation of the flag poles and a 12-foot brick wall naming the park.

Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick was also present. The fields "are an important part of Newtown's future," Fitzpatrick said, adding that he hopes "families will make great use of these parks."
