Newtown Borough Council on Wednesday night will consider hiring two part-time police officers to serve the Newtown Borough Police Department.

The candidates are Joseph Carcaci, 48, and Michael McAllister, 26.

According to the meeting agenda, Carcaci lives in Newtown and is a 1983 Council Rock High School graduate. He served in the United States Marine Corp reserves and attended the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in 1987. The real issue is why does the borough still have it's own department when township police could easily provide services, which would save Newtown taxpayers about $400,000 a year.
