Weekend Planner: Outdoor Movie, Cookbook Signing and More
The weekend kicks off with a historic walking tour and ends with a 5K to fight hunger, with plenty in between.
Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are some local events:
What: Carousel Village is hosting its first Movie Under the Stars, an outdoor screening of Disney’s “Up.”
When/where: 8:30 p.m. Friday at Carousel Village
Why go: Enjoy a movie outdoors! Plus there will be food vendors and ice cream available from OwowCow
Cost: $5 includes movie admission, a carousel ride and a balloon
What: A walking tour of Newtown hosted by the Newtown Historic Association
When/where: 6:30 p.m. Friday beginning at the Half Moon Inn on Centre Avenue and Court Street.
Why go: The tour will feature architecturally significant buildings on Liberty Street and surrounding areas.
What: Chef Jean Pierre, owner of Newtown’s Chef Jean Pierre Cooking School, will be signing copies of his first cookbook “From Jean Pierre to You: Lessons from a Master Chef.”
When/where: 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Newtown Library Company
Why go: In addition to signing books, Chef Jean Pierre will share some of his favorite appetizers. Wine will be served.
Cost: The cost of each cookbook is $25; $3 from each sale will be donated to the Newtown Library Company.
What: Members of the Washington Crossing Society of the Children of the American Revolution will hold a Flag Day program in which old and tattered flags will be properly retired.
When/where: 10 a.m. Saturday at The David Library of the American Revolution, 1201 River Rd, Washington Crossing
Why go: Bring your flags that need to be retired by 9:45 a.m.
What: The Newtown Historic Association’s Spring Cocktail Party will raise money to rebuild the historic bake oven in the cellar of the Half Moon Inn.
When/where: 5 p.m. Saturday at the historic Half Moon Inn, located at Court Street and Centre Ave.
Why go: The Half Moon Inn will be decorated with fresh spring flowers. In addition to cocktails, a selection of hors d’oeuvres will be served.
Cost: $35 per person
What: Shir Ami is hosting its second annual I Run For Food 5K to fight hunger in Bucks County.
When/where: Sunday at Tyler State Park; registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the race starts at 9 a.m.
Why go: Participants can choose to run or walk the 5K or one-mile race. The event will benefit local food pantries in Bucks County, including the Penndel Food Pantry.
Cost: $15 to $25, depending on the race and your age
