Will Sandy Ruin Halloween?
Township officials said they have no authority over trick-or-treating.
We know Hurricane Sandy will bring lots of water and wind damage to the area but how will it impact Halloween?
The worst of the storm should pass by Tuesday -- one day before Halloween -- however, downed trees and widespread power outages may make trick-or-treating, well, tricky.
Newtown Township Board of Supervisors Chairman Mike Gallagher said Newtown Township does not have authority over when children trick-or-treat. He said it would be up to the parents to decide whether or not to send their children out.
Newtown Borough offices were closed Monday and officials could not be reached for clarification on this issue. If anyone has information regarding trick-or-treating in Newtown Borough, please email kara.seymour@patch.com.

It should be moved to Friday night when the weather clears and it is safer for the children to be out.

I think kids can still have a Halloween. Only if a lot of trees don't fall down. And why would they move Halloween to Friday its not supposed to be in November only October. Duh everyone knows that.

Last year was a precedence in Northern New Jersey that Halloween can be pushed back. Since we will be without power for days, we can and should push it back.

I agree, the township should step up and make a uniform decision so that everyone does the same thing throughout Newtown. Many families without power don't even have ways to contact others to figure out if their neighborhoods are participating or not and are relying on patch for info. My development will be pitch black by 530pm and there are downed trees and branches still all over. We need a few more days to even clean up our properties after Sandy.
