Had Obama and I grown up in the same neighborhood, my parents would've grounded me if I hung around with Obama and his friends.
My parents taught me that 'you are who your friends are.' They disapproved of some of my friends, but compared to Obama’s friends, my “rough” friends were angels. Certainly they would never allow me to be friends with an American Terrorist like Bill Ayers, a leading member of the Weathermen Underground who bombed a dozen buildings between 1970-1974 and who threw Obama his first campaign fundraiser. Nor would they approve of being friends with someone like Reverend Wright, who preached, among other things, that Government invented aids as a means of black genocide. How about Louis Farrakhan, Leader of the Nation of Islam who stirs up racial divide and who said “The Jews don't like Farrakhan, so they call me Hitler. Well, that's a good name. Hitler was a very great man.” There is also Van Jones, an admitted Marxist, Communist, Socialist. And his pal Tony Rezko, who is now serving a prison sentence.
My parents taught me to take responsibility for my actions. It took me a long time to learn that lesson – but I did. Unfortunately, the leader of our country seems to not have learned that lesson. He blames Bush for the troublesome economy. He blames the Arab Spring and tensions in the Mideast for gas prices. Whatever is going wrong, Obama is never responsible for it. Yet, in the case of Bin Laden, Obama took full responsibility, as if he had been holding the gun and fired the shot. He blames congress for not ‘getting things done’ yet, let’s not forget that the Democrats controlled congress the first two years of his term. A leader doesn't blame, he takes responsibility, he leads. Obama throws his hands in the air and says, “Well, it’s not my fault! No one will work with me!” Could you imagine an NFL coach saying that and walking out on his team every time they lose? No, a leader works with what he has, he seeks to understand and negotiate – he inspires and motivates. He doesn't make excuses.
My parents taught me not to be envious; if I wanted something, I had to work for it. Obama teaches that there is more reward in being poor than being rich. When you are poor, you are taken care of. When you mismanage your money, the Government bails you out. If you work hard and you’re successful, then Obama accuses you of having “too much” and takes away your success – giving it to those who are reckless.
My parents taught me not to be racist. Yet Obama, who promised to be a great uniter, has done nothing but divide this country by getting involved in police matters and calling the Boston Police Department’s actions “stupid” when investigating a possible break in at a black professors home. He commented on the fact that Trayvon Martin could have been his son; “he would have looked like me.” Why did he even bother to get involved in this case? Because it was in the news – because Reverend Sharpton and Jesse Jackson were stirring up the black VS white debate. It was a way to assure the black people would vote for him. He even went so far as to sell Obama 2012 Hoodies on the campaign website but took them down a few days later because of all the backlash and it appeared as if he was cashing in on the death of Martin. Yet the Black Panthers put out a bounty and call for Zimmerman’s death, and Obama remains silent! Obama’s campaign website divides people into the following categories: African-Americans, Asian Americans; Pacific Islanders, Jewish Americans, Latinos, LGBT Americans, people of faith, veterans & military families, women and young Americans. Obama and his team identified sub-sections of the American population that he believes should be isolated and spoke down to in a way that is different from that of the general public - this creates division, fragmentation, and discord toward one another. It’s disturbing that Obama isolates ‘Jewish Americans’ separate from “people of faith.’ Does he not believe that Jews have faith? Why does he address ‘young Americans’ but not the largest pool of registered votes – those over 55 years of age.? Yes, ‘women’ are important, but why is there not a category for ‘men’? Why no mention of ‘business owners’ or ‘disabled Americans’ or other groups? Obama’s categorization of Americans into distinct groups for political gain intentionally works to destroy everything the civil rights movement and Martin Luther King sought to create by inspiring equality and blindness toward differences.
My parents taught me that actions speak louder than words. Obama is full of words- flowery speeches when read from a teleprompter – though severely lacking when not using the prompter. If he ‘walked his talk’ – America would be a much better place – but his actions differ vastly from his talk.
He allowed Eric Holder to reopen and investigate 101 cases of CIA agents who were involved in interrogating terrorists, a “CIA Witchhunt,” accusing them of torture. After 4 long years of harassment and causing the morale of the CIA to plummet, Holder dropped the charges a few weeks ago. Yet Obama and Holder, in a planned drone attack, authorized the killing of an American terrorist and his 16 year old son overseas without due process (no trial.) So ‘waterboarding’ is wrong, but killing citizens without trial is okay?
He promised to veto the NDAA which gives the government extreme power to indefinitely detain an American Citizen without a right to a fair trial – and instead quietly signed it into law on Dec 31, 2011. The ACLU is now suing Obama.
Obama said he wants America to be independent of foreign oil – yet he rejected the XL pipeline. In previous administrations 74% of all drilling permits were approved, Obama has only approved 34%. Instead of investing in a known and abundant source of energy (oil) – he has wasted billions of tax payer dollars in investing in “Green” companies that have gone bankrupt. He approved of the EPA regulating the coal industry with such high standards that it will make coal plants obsolete, thus costing hundreds of thousands of jobs.
Obama says he wants to make America attractive for other countries to come to America and open a business – yet on April 1st – he raised the corporate tax to 39.2% - the highest corporate tax IN THE WORLD.
What business would want to come to America and pay that kind of tax?
It seems to me that everything Obama promises or says, his actions do the opposite. If you didn’t listen to any of Obama’s speeches and simply looked at what he has done on paper, you would think he is destroying America – you would think Obama is against Capitalism. You would think his vilifying of success always harping that it’s not fair for the successful to have more than others – you would think that he wanted to redistribute wealth as he saw fit. You would think with the employment roadblocks he throws up – he actually is in favor of unemployment – for if you’re unemployed or under employed, you need to rely on the Government for assistance in the form of unemployment checks, welfare, or food stamps. You would think that his signing of NDAA and HR 347 (limiting free speech) and he granted the Govt far more intrusions into spying on a person than Bush ever did, that Obama’s goal was total Government control of the people – and that would be communism.
I was taught by my parents and by my school, that our Founding Fathers fought for this country, that blood was shed in this country in order to break free from an oppressive government. That America was about INDIVIDUAL freedom and liberty – what we can do to help ourselves and help others – not that we were collectively dependent on the government to control us.
A vote for Obama is a vote against America. A vote for Obama is regressing back to the 1700’s – when the people in this country were over taxed, over worked, and had little freedom.

Obama’s War on Coal
Obama says: Go ahead and build a coal-powered plant — but it will bankrupt you.
How about PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS instead of extremist ones.

Like cable spin centers calling opinions "news" — or Upper Makefield TEAparty gamers playing for political gain (forgetting governing for all) — or the school board speaking for all when listening to only 40% — and so much in our "Divided State of America" (and community) ... these are OPINIONS and not the FACTS.
That's the price of free speech in a free society where we are all equals.
But someone has to stand up for separating the spread of opinion as fact - compared to education of all the facts. We need to be and vote for something and not just against something (someone). All this "Obama is", "Americans have spoken", "At the end of the day", ... is all opinions speaking for the SOME and not the many. Too often these words lead the sheep where leaders want them to go.
Our forefathers were not Republican or Democratic. There were NO divisive parties. There was one table with everyone and everything on the table. The process was conversation with compassion, consideration, cooperation, and the ability to listen more then you preach.
We need to return the their ideals of ONE nation before we divide apart. Even Jesus did not judge people this much and he hung out with thieves and prostates .. but in our Divided America and so called Christian nation, we only hang out with those who side with us.
Ms. Freed is free to her OPINIONS. But she does NOT speak for me, my parents, my beliefs, and who I will hang out with.

LeSheppard, there is nothing in this piece that talks about a Tea Party yet you bring up Upper Makefield Tea Party. That is certainly not a national issue that Obama's experiences in this piece brings up, so huh?
Here's another fact per your column, our forefathers WERE divisive. The original parties were Federalist (ended with James Madison) or Democratic-Republicans (later to become Democrat). They fought over the power of a Fed vs. power to the states. They fought and fought to create an amazing document, the Constitution- it wasn't all lovey dovey. So you're wrong here too- please read any historical commentary on the forefathers. It wasn't easy for them.
Also, the listing of Obama's friends were written about long before this blog. Just because you like Obama you don't care his friends bomb buildings and preach to G.D. America? You're sick! I hope to never meet who you hang out with without witnesses.

Or that ARAB Spring is bringing down evil dictators in the middle east to be replaced by even more evil and violent governments. From my wife after reading FaceBook entry "Local blogger says Obama is the opposite of every value her parents taught her" ... I'm awfully sorry, but wouldn't that statement of hate and total disrespect and pure anger be suited for the likes of Adolf Hitler or Charles Manson or Bin Laden or others - instead of someone you "politically" oppose in our ONE nation Untied Stares of America?
Do people understand our democracy is about all of us as ONE people and not this divisiveness for "your side"? America is we all "hang" together. So many need to relearn what the forefathers creation and their desired process was truly all about. But like her spin team in Upper Makefield - they want the fight - are willing to win at any cost - ignore respect, fact, and listening as they hold the answers for all - and believe they are the Sunshine in their stunts, spin, and games. We need to do better.

I agree with the comments about divisiveness but that's what you get with our insane two party system. Candidates should cross party lines and show a little individuality.
But to single out the Tea Party as spin doctors is pure ignorance......the main line GOPs and all of the left are equally as guilty.
If you have had a great four years vote for Obama. I am not going to be voting for him as I believe he has been detrimental to the country.
Ed

"that's what you get with our insane two party system" My point exactly. The process must change to return to a ONE and UNITED nation. Divide and conquer widens the "Divided State of America". Compromise and cooperation are lost.
"cross party lines and show a little individuality" You can't. Romney became many different people with his hypocritical etch-o-sketch - his excepted election strategy based on "just not HIM". PARTIES and POLITICS control the governing, not the people.
"I believe he has been detrimental to the country" Just him? What about the House's obstructionism with "political governing" for 4 years while the machine (party/candidate/media) BLAME ONE man. To claim Obama failed means our entire GOVERNMENT failed. But that does not follow the political SCRIPT.
"single out the Tea Party as spin doctors is pure ignorance" This article was on TEA "political blame". My point you miss is the PROCESS ITSELF is corrupt.
"If you have had a great four years vote for Obama" Simplistic wasted vote. Vote for someone and something - not against something or someone. We don't have a king to blame and be accountable for everything. We have the House, Senate, Bush years (wars and economy), world affairs, a divided process, a Supreme Court that said "corporations are people", and much more. If you play the blame game, include it all. Be an educated voter.
FYI: How divided are we? Read Andrea to me "You're sick! I hope to never meet who you hang out with without witnesses"

I respect your right to opine but we are faced with a choice, and I will go with the lesser evil as one is a known quantity and the other is not. Rights back at cha NS.
I too respect everyone's opinion and agree we ARE faced with a clear choice.
I don't see neither as evil or less then.
To reword - I DO want to vote for the known quantities - the other has too many faces ... (http://truetoall.com/Obamas_Dilemma.jpg).
The difference is not just about bottom line and profit as our America is FAR more then just a business. We are a country of many and not just for few.
If you were watching baseball last night and heard Tony Bennett sing "God Bless America" - you got a tear in your eye and a lump in your throat (at least I did) that is not about business or greed. America stands for SO much more.
I agree Romney would lead a business to profit where the ONLY concern is sales and profit and bottom line. That is not America to me.
I just can't see how he would represent ALL "we the people" when he stand for something different everyday. I need to KNOW what my vote is voting for and there are just too many Romneys running this past year.
Vote for who you like - just vote - and thanks for the conversation.
We disagree but THAT is America to me.

Nick and Le - Obviously you've chosen to believe the propaganda of the Tea Party. I've attended many different groups and I can tell you, they are FOR the every-day citizen. They often say, "First we have to fire the RINO's then we have to fire the Democrats." They are against BIG GOVERNMENT no matter WHAT party is in office.
It's quite a sad day for America when the values of responsibility, acceptance, honesty, and hard work are viewed as "hate speech."
Nick
2:28 pm on Monday, October 1, 2012
Laura lets just take one of your statements above and examine it:
"Obama teaches that there is more reward in being poor than being rich."
Really? How so? Because he suggests using a progressive tax? That is PURE CAPITALISM. Back to it's founding theory (Adam Smith, The Wealth of Nations) a progressive tax has been known to be necessary to sustain a capitalist marketplace. It was Republicans who convinced you that it was unfair. Back to school for Laura.
And the very idea that Obama tells us there is more reward for being poor than rich is just flatly absurd. Somehow the right wing is convinced that people living below the poverty line are somehow pulling a fast one on the American taxpayer and that wealthy people are really the victims. Do you know anyone living in poverty Laura? Real poverty? I do. It isn't pretty and it sure as heck isn't better than being wealthy.
Who is the propagandist? I think it is you. My parents would not have told me not to hang out with you when we were kids, Laura. I do think i would have come to that conclusion on my own, however.
Would you like me to analyze more of your "argument"?
Ed
10:08 am on Monday, October 1, 2012
No Laura. Please do NOT speak for me or assume you know me. You don't GET me after writing that article.
I "HANG" with the Tea Party members. I HANG with Republicans. I HANG with moderates. And yes as eveil as that makes me in your words I hand with fellow Democrats. I respect them all and I proudly HAND with them all.
Fact is I KNOW while many of their views are on target — MANY of their tactics and understanding of process are in question. We saw this in Upper Makefiled Township during the staged and scripted (bringing in outside support using "Americans For Prosperity" for better theater ) meeting on roads when IN FACT the issue was dead but they STILL wanted a WIN. Or on their plight against the school board budget when the UM TEA party spread lies instead of getting engaged in the conversation and making a difference - they went for the jab and called that a win.
You can't use the word "propaganda" when defending TEA party action locally as that is exactly my criticisim of them - they need to be far less about propaganda and stunt - and FAR more content / substance / process.
As I said you have VERY right to you opinions as they all do - but the truly sad day is when our differences become this extreme and the responsibility of our democracy, the acceptance of a free society, the right for honest debate, and hard work of any and all is gamed so.
We are ALL "every day citizens and we ALL should be able to HANG together.
That IS America.

Mar - "one man's trash is another man's treasure".
The Patch is doing their job as this was under "Local Voices".
Allowing this editorial post is the cost and price and the glory of free speech and freedom in a free country. Ms. Freed has every right to her opinions as long as they are stated as opinions - not facts nor speaking for me and others. As said - she does not. But she and those in Upper Makefield and others (as in many local governing boards) do not control the Sunshine nor the facts nor the morals of our socierty - only their opinions. That is the open conversation that makes this America so great - that we CAN (still) have that open debate and not be persecuted for not agreeing with the ruling "team". Freedom.
What troubles me far more then Ms. Freed's parents teaching her not to HANG with "THEM" (whatever this them is), is we all working and gaming with such anger and disrespect towards this divide of controlling power from all sides instead of working as ONE nation.

Don't see a pro Romney - or a Obama bias on Patch sites. If anything - seeing more "Republican" stories is due to clever Republican professional politicians like Mike Fitzpatrick and others knowing how to "work" and "handle" situations and issues and appearances to get themselves in the news and to get local coverage. As for the TEAers, they have an energy and a spirit based on their strong beliefs and a process of do WHATEVER it takes to win (like the Upper Makefield stunt over roads) to make news even when there is no story. Plus as this editorial proves they are not afraid to say whatever and disrespect whoever in making their opinions known. So as this editorial and others in other local publications prove - they do not believe in wait and see. They want the fight and they will bring it in your face. To balance that effort, Democrats and Independents have to get involved and speak their minds and not be so quiet. Someone should write an "Local Voice" opinion answering Ms. Freed's opinions and post it in the Patch (besides just blogging). I praise the Patch for starting the conversation. Free speech means we all get a voice, even those we oppose. We need that in Bucks County - trust me. We need more understanding of the facts - more conversation in the process - and more people involved especially in our local school and township governing where the few spin the many while keeping the people they serve out.

Oh Le, love your passive aggressive writing. TBH - You are firmly entrenched in the progressive camp, it's obvious with your hate propaganda against the TEA party - and if you were "Independent" you would call out the Democrats for backing the violent Occupy Movement, for the SEIU paying 11.00 an hour to bus people to Romney events to heckle him, etc. Also, your ability to write many words yet come to no concrete solution puts you in Progressive Camp.
I'm against Obama NOT ONLY because of his character defects, but because he is for more spending, higher taxes, more central Government control. NOT what the founders wanted, NOT what the Tea Party movement wants, and NOT what most Americans want.

My Father - and my Mother being a Christian Baptist woman while also being a full blooded Nixon Republican - NEVER would have encourage us to not speak or HANG with others. What does it say about those who can't agree to disagree and must control the facts as they see fit? American - I think not. As for your Mother's voice and vote in the last Presidential election and your opinion on how "unfortunate" her vote was, I hope with all the voter suppression being fought for to control the message and the power she and so many other Americans will be able to vote for whomever next month. You call my words propaganda when I have supported your right to your opinions. You judge me and tell me what to do - what to think. You are judgmental putting people into groups. You blame one man forgetting so much more like the House, the Senate, obstructionism, serving pledge/party over country, lack of compromise/cooperation, and much more all left out - all while claiming HE is to blame and HE is not the type of person you want or would be allowed to HANG with. "Character defects" - we all need to look in the mirror before we judge strangers. We need to not JUST watch FOX or MSNBC, but research the FACTS on "spending, higher taxes, more government control" and the rest. Before you list all of your "NOTS" - get the story and facts straight. As for my solutions, I choose to call out what I believe in as in no parties, no reelections anywhere, 4 years terms local to supreme, no money in elections or governing - all to get us back to being one nation and not this ugly divisive sport of politics. As for your "Most of America" - to quote Reagan "there you go again" speaking for others with nothing factual to back it. We are a divided country and no one should ever claim "most of us".

Agreed on having a fact-checking field day.
Everyone is so anxious to say how awful Obama is for the future of America, however, the Republicans put up Mitt Romney as their candidate. If the Republicans can't take the election seriously enough to put up their best and brightest, they will be the reason that Obama is re-elected. They pretty much tossed in the towel on this one waiting for 2016 to come. I almost think these discussions are a mute point. It's Obama's election to lose and if what he's already done/hasn't done hasn't given up his lead, then he really has to do something mighty awful over the next few weeks or the election is his.

I agree with Rush. I HOPE HE FAILS.
Because why would I want an America-hating Marxist to succeed in is plan to "fundamentally transform" America?
Into what?!
It doesn't need transforming.
We are not going to sit back and let him do it!

"Obama says he wants to make America attractive for other countries to come to America and open a business – yet on April 1st – he raised the corporate tax to 39.2% - the highest corporate tax IN THE WORLD."
Falsehoods abound in this post. Obama didn't raise the coroporate tax and the federal corporate tax remains 35% with an average state corporate tax rate of 4.2%. America became the highest GROSS coroporate tax rate (loopholes not included in calculation) when Japan lowered it's rate.
Another Tea Party distortion of reality.

Now, Nick, why would you want to muddy the water with details like that? 39.2% =/ 35%? I bet you like Bill Clinton and his "bad math" jokes, too, don't you? :)

Those tax rates are nominal. Most corporations pay about 13%. Many huge profitable corporations pay none at all. But I guess those details don't help Laura's cause, so they were conveniently left out.

Laura - Really? Character defects? After reading your opinion piece and viewing your blog (yes, I still try to have an open mind and develop informed opinions) I find it laughable that you call into question President Obama's character. Your blog is vulgar (Curse words and satirical videos of yourself), ludicrous and trashy (Nice pictures of yourself scantily clad. If I was covered in tattoos and had paid for my ridiculously over sized boobs, I'd want to show them off too!) . This opinion piece in and of itself is disgustingly disrespectful. It's President Obama - whether you like it or not. Oh what, your saintly parents didn't bother to teach you to respect the Office of the President, the leader of your country? I'm an American too and I don't like trash like you disrespecting our President. The best part of all of this is that you may not want to "hang" with the President but he'd have enough class and character to sit down and listen to whatever vile nonsense you chose to spew. THAT is what makes him better than you.

"Obama says he wants to make America attractive for other countries to come to America and open a business – yet on April 1st – he raised the corporate tax to 39.2% - the highest corporate tax IN THE WORLD. What business would want to come to America and pay that kind of tax?"
The corporate tax rate in the U.S. is not 39.2%. That's the *maximum* corporate tax rate. The actual tax rate starts at 0%, and maxes out at 39%. This is in contrast to most countries, which have a fixed corporate tax rate.
Only 8% of business paid more than 30% in taxes. 72% of businesses paid less than 30% in taxes. And a whopping 20% paid NEGATIVE taxes.
The average? About 11%. One of the LOWEST rates in the world.
The insinuation that U.S. businesses are all paying 39% in corporate taxes is highly misleading.

I thought the article was spot on. Character and integrity do matter and our politicians including President Obama are lacking both.

Chiming back in ... OUR President is not king - not the only one governing - and so not the only one to blame. Forgotten in this blame game our hypocritical obstructionist gaming House (since day one including Ryan) and the Senate. They ALL are the government and TOO MANY served their pledges and plans and parties far better then they serve WE THE PEOPLE - our country.
"Character and integrity do matter" - absolutely as do FACTS over opinion which too often are mixed and mingled. No one OWNS the balance of character or integrity in a free society. You see a lack - I see much - that's freedom.
Also, so much of the OPINIONATED FACTS spoken in this editorial, in this blog, in our divisive gamed political process of elections/governing, on cable party bought divisive rhetoric channels (little factual news), and in much of the spin spread is just that - opinion. That is "highly misleading".
THIS is why as I stated PEOPLE should not be sheep following ANY opinionated leaders on TV - in governing - or in the public and instead be educated in ALL the facts voting for something and someone - instead of just voting against something or someone. IF we can get there we would be a better process, government, and country. As much as we if we are to be a UNITED country hope for a change, the last 30 plus years this partied based gamed divide has become deeper and angrier with SO many enjoying the game - forgetting the governing for all people (and yes I AM criticizing all sides on that)

The GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of this country was recently downgraded to 1.3%.
This is abysmal. The upcoming jobs report will show America to have a 44th month of unemployment over 8%. When you figure in those that have given up looking for work, it's closer to 19%. THAT is abysmal.
Median Family Income has dropped $4,000 under Obama. More people are out of work now then when Obama took office.
The above are the facts. Why are some Americans continuing to support a president who's only experience was as a US Senator in his first term, who spent most of that first term running for higher office. Before that he was a state senator in his first term who voted "present" over 100 times instead of a yea or nay vote.
Romney has run a business, a successful Olympics and a state.
One has "Executive Experience" , the other is still trying to figure out what that is after almost 4 years.

Keith Best, like I have told you before and you have continued to ignore: it's not the Presidents fault there are no jobs. He can only do so much. If you think he needs to do more, name it. I'm certain it will go along some Romney-devotee bull crap like: lower taxes on the rich. So, you are as predictable as Obama winning the election.
