What does the good fight mean? It means fighting for something that means something, in this case, life! I have come across several people in my lifetime that have suffered from breast cancer. In the past month it has hit close to home. My cousin, whom is very close in age to myself, was diagnosed with stage one breast cancer. She had a double mastectomy last week and all I could think about were her children and her husband. You see when someone gets diagnosed with cancer, everyone gets diagnosed with cancer. I thought about my very young hairdresser who is a 5 year survivor, one of my best friends mothers who is fighting every day, and I thought about all of the mothers, children, aunts, husbands, fathers, uncles, grandparents, and all those that are affected by this disease. It has definitely brought my family closer, as unfortunately, illness does. But I also thought about the good side. The appreciation for life, the little things. The Mother's Day that will come this year that will be very poignant as my family members walk for my cousin and all those affected. I thought about walking with my son, who will understand what it means, as we cross the finish line. Life is so precious and no matter what we suffer from, we need to value our time here with our loved ones. I imagine that day will remembered for the rest of our lives and what a better memory to create on Mothers Day.

Prayers to your cousin on a speedy recovery. Cancer, the ugly word no one ever wants to hear mentioned, but yet, there it is creeping up on our family and friends. What a way to honor a loved one but to walk together with family, friends and strangers all for the same reason. Coming together with people from all over and finding such enormous support in so many different ways has to be life changing. I would love to do the Susan B. Gorman walk in the future. What a way to help show your love and support to so many who need it. Lea, I would love to do this with you in support of your cousin.

Thanks for the reminder of what should be everyone's mantra: to appreciate life and those in it! I know I would be lost without my family and close friends, some of which carry both titles...talk about blessed.
And I'll be rooting for you and the other angels-on-earth who cross that finish line on Mother's Day!!!!
