48 Minutes – Deli dinner to follow movie

A film about the mass exodus of Jews from the Middle East and North Africa in the 20th century accompanied by a discussion with Albert & Judee Algazi.

The Forgotten Refugees explores the history, culture, and exodus of Middle Eastern and North African Jewish communities in the second half of the 20th century. Using extensive testimony of the former refugees from Egypt, Yemen, Libya, Iraq, and Morocco the film recounts the stories that nearly one million individuals have carried with them for so long. The Forgotten Refugees weaves personal accounts with dramatic archival footage of rescue missions, historic images of immigration and resettlement, and analyses by contemporary scholars to tell the story of how and why the Jewish population in Arab countries declined from approximately 850,000 in 1948 to several thousand today.

Algazi was born in Cairo, Egypt and went to school at a private French Catholic high school to the 12th grade. He is fluent in French and Arabic. He is the oldest of 5 children, all born in Egypt. His family left Egypt when he was 17 years old. He arrived in the USA in August
of 1966. He attended Brooklyn Polytechnic University where he received a Bachelor degree in Engineering. He also received a B.S. in Engineering, an M.S. degree in Engineering Management and an advanced degree as a certified Public Manager. He is the President of the American Society of Highway Engineers.
