Holland Elementary Recognized For Wee Care Bear Project

The plaque honored last year's Wee Care Bear Project which began with Holland Elementary students, faculty and families collecting 1,418 stuffed Wee Care bears.

A June 12 all-school assembly at Holland Elementary School included presentation of a memorial plaque by The Greater Newtown Exchange Club (GNEC) to Holland Elementary students and faculty.

The plaque honored last year’s Wee Care Bear Project which began with Holland Elementary students, faculty and families collecting 1,418 stuffed Wee Care bears. The project culminated with over 25 local police and emergency responders being presented with the Wee Care bears for their patrol units and emergency response (EMS) personnel to distribute to children involved in trauma situations.

In the photo accompanying this article, GNEC member Laurel Collins holds the plaque, flanked by Holland Elementary principal Andrew Sanko, Council Rock School superintendent Mark Klein, Northampton Township Police Chief Michael Clark , GNEC president Scott Harp and GNEC members Randy Beck, Dan Morrison, Bob Scheithauer, Duane Buck and Denis Jensen.

The Wee Care Bear program was sponsored by GNEC in partnership with Holland Elementary and the Northampton Township Police Department. Other donors include The Council Rock United Soccer Association and The Bucks County Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

The plaque presented to Holland Elementary featured a memorial photo array of Holland Students and faculty, GNEC members and police personnel as they worked last year to collect, package and distribute the stuffed bears. After the presentation, school principal Andrew Sanko commented, "Besides making new friends, there were a lot of life lessons embedded in this learning opportunity. Perhaps the greatest lesson was that everyone in the school (students, parents, staff) had the opportunity to participate in an outreach activity that may help others in some small way. Know we enjoyed partnering with the GNEC."
