ALS is a neuromuscular disease that causes damage to the nerve cells controlling voluntary muscle movement. Patients lose the ability to control muscle functions. Early symptoms usually include tripping, dropping things, abnormal fatigue of the arms and/or legs, slurred speech, muscle cramps and twitches.  Late ALS can include paralysis and the need for ventilation. Currently there is no known cause or cure for ALS. There are currently 30,000 patients in the United States who live with ALS and many of them have children.

In 2003, Mrs. O’Donnell-Ames  married Warren Ames and became a step-mother to Nora and Adam Ames, who lost also lost their biological mother Tina Singer Ames to ALS in 2000.

“While raising three children who have lost a parent to ALS, I witnessed how difficult it was for them to get the right kind of help.  I then vowed to help other children once my children were in college,” explained O’Donnell-Ames on forming HLC.

ALS has united the O’Donnell-Ames family in hope and in love. Hope Loves Company was formed in memory of Kevin O’Donnell and Tina Singer Ames. For more information, go to www.hopelovescompany.com or view the HLC video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2pzXRbx_vs.
