Winner of Bucks libraries' summer reading program grand prize collects at Fred Beans Ford

The Klumpp family of Yardley is going the Poconos for a themed indoor water park adventure at Great Wolf Lodge, thanks to 6 1/2-year-old Olivia Klumpp, Bucks County Library and Fred Beans Family of Dealerships.

Olivia, a first-grader at Edgewood Elementary, loves to read. From June through August, she participated in the library’s Summer Reading Program, Dig into Reading, going to her local Yardley-Makefield branch every week to report how many minutes she had read and been read to at home, to return her books and get more. She also attended all the special programs and activities that she could.

And at the program’s closing celebration in August, Barbara Beans drew Olivia’s name from a bin filled with thousands of entries for the grand prize, all youngsters who had taken advantage of the summer reading activities and incentives to keep up with their reading over the hiatus from school.

Budget cuts to the libraries had eliminated the popular summer reading initiative that keeps kids on track over the months when school isn’t in session. But for the second year, a $50,000 Pennsylvania EITC grant – Educational Improvement Tax Credit – from Fred Beans Automotive Group has allowed it to continue, bigger and better than ever. The program serves as many as 40,000 children throughout the county at 18 branch and community libraries within the “BucksLib” system.
