The Newtown Bypass will soon be officially called Officer Brian Gregg Memorial Highway.

The road will be renamed during a ceremony this Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Newtown Borough Hall, the borough announced on its website.

North State Street between Washington Avenue and Jefferson will be closed from 10 a.m. to noon for the ceremony.

Gregg, 46, was killed in the line of duty on Sept. 29, 2005. Robert Flor, who was in custody for suspected drunken driving, was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for testing. While there, Flor grabbed another policeman’s weapon and started shooting, wounding two others and killing Gregg.
