Library Holding Legend of Sleepy Hollow Event

Joe McKernan, a Newtown resident and local theatre actor, will be doing a special Halloween-themed performance Thursday at The Newtown Library Company.

Joe McKernan, a Newtown resident and local theatre actor, will be doing a special Halloween-themed performance Thursday at The Newtown Library Company. McKernan will perform various characters from "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." 

The event begins at 7:30 p.m.

“For those that saw Joe last year in his portrayal of Edgar Allen Poe, you know how his portrayals really come to life,” the library said in a press release.

McKernan started acting when he was an undergraduate student at the University of Delaware.  After performing regularly in local dinner theater productions in New Hope and Lahaska, he returned to college as a theater major at Temple University.  In 1993, McKernan received an MFA in acting from the University of Illinois and moved to Chicago to begin his professional acting career. 

McKernan has a long history of acting and producing. He and his wife, Anne, are long-time residents of Newtown and members of The Newtown Arts Company.
