Newtown Arts Company will hold auditions for “The Music Man,” this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. at the
The director is seeking 20 to 30 actors and is casting all roles.
“The Music Man” is written by Meredith Wilson and is a musical tribute to small-town life, according to a description on the Newtown Arts Company’s website.
The play “follows the exploits of a fast-talking salesman and con artist who arrives in River City, Iowa, in 1912. Planning to set up a boy’s band and abscond with the money raised for musical instruments, he is undone by a local librarian and music teacher,” according to the description. The play is “wickedly funny and romantic with quirky characters and a nostalgic yet rousing musical score.”
Performances will be at the historic Newtown Theatre on August 9 to 15. Those who plan to audition should prepare 16 to 32 bars of a classic Broadway song written before 1970. Selections from the show are welcome.
Bring proper dance attire and sheet music, as an accompanist will be provided (no CDs). There will be singing and dancing at the audition and reading at callbacks.
