“The Music Man” is written by Meredith Wilson and is a musical tribute to small-town life, according to a description on the Newtown Arts Company’s website.

The play “follows the exploits of a fast-talking salesman and con artist who arrives in River City, Iowa, in 1912. Planning to set up a boy’s band and abscond with the money raised for musical instruments, he is undone by a local librarian and music teacher,” according to the description.  The play is “wickedly funny and romantic with quirky characters and a nostalgic yet rousing musical score.”
