Newtown Theatre Company to Present 'The Odd Couple'

Performances of 'The Odd Couple' begin June 20 at the Newtown Theatre.

Neil Simon’s Tony-Award-winning comedy “The Odd Couple,” produced by Newtown Arts Company, is set to open June 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Newtown Theatre.

“The Odd Couple,” Mr. Simon’s best- known play, will be directed by John Rasiej and produced by Nancy Pickering.

"It takes a humorous and sometimes biting look at the dilemma faced by Oscar and Felix who attempt to live together after their lives and marriages have fallen apart.  The characters are portrayed by Jeff Pilchman and Matthew Maher, both residents of Newtown," said a press release from the Newtown Arts Company.

This production features the stage debut of noted television personality Don Polec. He plays the role of Vinnie, one of the poker players whose rambunctious behavior adds flavor to the play.  Polec is joined by Richard Blanck of Feasterville, Bruce Perlman of New Hope and Jeff Dworkin of Somerset, N.J.

Don Polec is fondly regarded by viewers in the area who were fans of his regular "Don Polec's World" feature on 6abc’s Action News, where he provided two-minute segments on his observations of quirky and weird aspects of life.  He also contributed his unique talent as a feature correspondent for ABC's "Good Morning America."

Among his many awards, Polec received accolades for "Best Feature" from the Philadelphia Press Club and The Associated Press of Pennsylvania every year from 1983 to 1994.

Taking on the role of the lovable and flighty Pigeon sisters in this production of “The Odd Couple” are Morgaine Ford-Workman of Morrisville and Joy Sarcewicz of Langhorne.

This year, the Newtown Arts Company is celebrating its 30th anniversary.  "Since its inception in 1983, a portion of all show proceeds has funded scholarships for young students pursuing higher education in the arts.  With the awards that will be made in the week prior to this show, the group will have surpassed the $100,000 figure in total scholarship aid awarded," the press release said.

Performances of “The Odd Couple,” begin June 20 at 7:30 p.m. and continue June 21 and 22 at 8 p.m. There will be a Sunday matinee on June 23 at 3 p.m. and performances June 25 and 26 at 7:30 p.m.

The play is produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
