Newtown Theatre Introduces Membership Program

If you like movies and want to support a local institution, consider a membership to the Newtown Theatre.

The 300-seat theatre, which reopened last month after more than six months of being closed for technical upgrades, is now offering a yearly membership program.

The annual membership, which is $40 for an individual (discounts offered for seniors and students), has several benefits, including $5 admission to most movies. Other benefits include discounts for lectures and theatre rentals.

The historic Newtown Theatre began showing movies in 1906. Prior to showing movies, the building—which dates to 1831—served as a lecture hall, town meeting place and theatrical venue.
