Tots Can Rock at 'Little Wing' Music Class

Little Wing, a music class for kids 3 to 5 years old, is currently accepting students for its upcoming classes, which are held at School of Rock in Newtown.

You’re never too young to love rock n’ roll and there’s a local music class to prove it.

Little Wing, a music class for kids 3 to 5 years old, is currently accepting students for its upcoming sessions. The classes are held at School of Rock in Newtown.

According to instructor Beca Dunst, the class is different than your average “Mommy and Me” music lesson.

“Little Wing is all about feeling like a rock star,” she said. While other programs use traditional children's music or nursery rhymes, Little Wing uses classic rock songs by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Queen and others to teach music theory, rhythm and melody.

"Because of this unique approach to early childhood music education, and the awesome music selection, students and parents alike adore this class and keep coming back,” Dunst said.

While rock music is the basis of the class, students in each eight-week session explore classical and jazz music as well, Dunst said.

And there’s plenty of hands-on time with instruments, including guitars, drums, keyboards, tambourines, maracas and more. Parents are free to drop the children up and pick up at the end of the 45-minute class or they can stay and watch.

“Little Wing is a wonderful way to encourage a love of and interest in music,” Dunst said.
