Tyler Park Center For the Arts Offering Youth Programs

Registration is now open for the upcoming session, which begins Nov. 1 and will feature opportunities for children of all ages.

Is your child a budding artist seeking a creative outlet?

If so, Tyler Park Center for the Arts may have just the solution. The art center, located in Tyler Park at the former headquarters of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen, now offers a youth art program with several upcoming workshops for children and teens.

Registration is now open for the second session, which begins Nov. 1 and will have opportunities for children of all ages.

“From A to Z we have you covered for arts workshops," said Program Director Donna Muchnicki. "This session, we're excited to welcome artists Annelies van Dommelen and Oz Freedgood to our teaching staff at Tyler Park Center for the Arts."

Renowned artist Oz Freedgood will teach Sculptural Animals with OZ! – a 3D sculptural design class for kids 10 and older. The five-week class will be held Wednesdays starting Nov. 2 from 4:30 to 6:15 p.m. and is $125.

Freedgood is a graduate of Parsons School of Design and also studied at Pratt and the New School. He taught Arts and Crafts at the Santa Ana Indian Pueblo, where he discovered his love of teaching, Muchnicki said.

Other classes include: oil painting for beginners; “the magic of color;” drawing in multiple mediums; “art explores;” and a seasonal class that will focus on holiday-themed projects.

There are also programs for adults.

Local artist Annelies van Dommelen, who studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, will present two workshops for adults and teens 16 and older. One is sculptural painting, in which students create base molds then paint with acrylics or oils. It will be held 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays from Nov. 1 through Dec. 6.
