Hundreds attended the Newtown Theatre's "Let's Get Digital...Digital" gala Saturday to raise money for the $100,000 cost of converting to a digital projection system.
Conversion to digital is necessary as movie distributors switch from sending new releases on reeled spools, which can cost up to $2,000, to releasing the movies on a digital format. The cost of a reusable hard drive is estimated to be around $300, according to event organizers.
