Brewfest, Native Plant Sale Among Weekend Events

Here's a look at some local weekend events:

THE GREAT GATSBY

What: "The Great Gatsby" starring Leonardo DiCaprio, opens at the Newtown Theatre

When/where: Thursday at 10 p.m., Friday at 4 and 7 p.m., Saturday at 1, 4 and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Newtown Theatre, 120 N State St.

Cost: $10; seniors and children are $8

CARNIVAL

What: Upper Makefield Fire Company's carnival will be open in Washington Crossing through Saturday

When/where: Friday from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 10 p.m. off Route 32 across from the Washington Crossing Post Office.

Cost: Tickets for all night wrist bands are $20; the fire company also serves food and drinks. 

WASHINGTON CROSSING BREWFEST

What: Sample beers from local, regional and national breweries, plus enjoy live music and food. The event is a fundraiser for Friends of Washington Crossing Park.

When/where: Saturday from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Washington Crossing Historic Park (upper park behind Thompson Neely House.)

Cost: $40, designated driver tickets are $10. Click here to purchase tickets online.

NATIVE PLANT SALE

What: Just in time for Mother's Day, Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve is hosting a Spring Native Plant Sale

When/where: Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve, 1635 River Road, New Hope

Cost: Free for members, included with paid admission of $5 ($3 for seniors). Visit www.bhwp.org for details

FARMERS MARKET

What: The Wrightstown Farmers Market offers various food items from local producers

When/where: Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wrightstown Township Municipal Building, 2203 2nd Street Pike

Cost: Items vary

BUCKS COUNTY BARN PROGRAM

What: Nancy J. Steigerwalt will present “Searching for Barns in Bucks County

When/where: Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Yardley-Makefield Branch Library, 1080 Edgewood Rd, Yardley

Cost: Free

RACE FOR CHRISTINA

What: Local resident Catherine Logan is organizing the Race for Christina, a 5K to raise money to help find a cure for Friedrich’s ataxia, a neuromuscular disease.

When/where: Sunday at 9 a.m. at Tyler State Park. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The race will begin by the Tyler Park Center for the Arts; use the Richboro Road entrance.

Cost: $20 in advance or $25 that day. Children are $10. Pre-registration is available online by visiting this link.
