Weekend Planner: Brews and Boos

Newtown Halloween Art Scene will be held Saturday. Brewfest is taking place at the NAC that day, too.

HALLOWEEN ART SCENE

When/where: Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. on State and Sycamore streets

Why go: Join residents and business owners in decorating the town for Halloween. The day will feature window painting of State and Sycamore street businesses, scarecrow making and a cupcake contest.

BREWFEST

When/where: Saturday from 12 to 5 p.m. at the Newtown Athletic Club

Why go: Sample a huge selection of beers while enjoying food and live entertainment

Cost: VIP admission is $70; regular admission is $40; designated driver ticket is $10

When/where: The Newtown Arts Company’s newest production opens Thursday with performances Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Newtown Theatre. Click here for a full schedule of performances.

Why go: Local performers will put on John Cariani’s Almost, Maine, a story the Newtown Arts Company says explores the “mysteries of the human heart, touching audiences with heartbreak, hope and laughter."

CRAFTS IN THE MEADOW

Where/where: Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Tyler Park Center for the Arts, which is located in Tyler State Park

Why go: The two-day event will feature fine arts and crafts exhibitors, live entertainment, interactive family arts activities, demonstrations, local vendors, food and more.

COMMON OCCURANCE

Where/when: Sunday from 2 to 3:30 p.m., behind the Newtown Bicycle Shop at Greene and North State streets. 

Why go: This event is aimed to educate the community about Newtown Common and its need for preservation. It will feature games, light refreshments and a group photo as part of the national "This Place Matters" campaign by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
