The Newtown Historic Association's annual Open House Tour is the organization's biggest fundraiser.

Participants have the chance to view six private homes and several public buildings, including the Half-Moon Inn.

That day, the Half-Moon Inn will feature period musical entertainment, hearthside colonial cooking demonstrations and mulled cider and cheese.

All the homes in this year’s tour are in Newtown Borough and can be reached by foot from the Half-Moon Inn.  The homes will all be decorated for the holidays, said Association board member Bill Mahler.

Organizers advise participants to refrain from wearing high heels in to the homes. No pictures will be allowed.

All proceeds from the tour benefit the Newtown Historic Association. According to Mahler, the tour is the Association’s biggest fundraiser.

Mahler said each of the homes have historic significance. There will be tour guides present at each home to discuss the historic features.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased in advance at Newtown Hardware or online at Association’s website, www.newtownhistoric.org.

On the day of the tour, tickets can be purchased at the Half-Moon Inn, Court Street and Centre Avenue and at the Stocking Works, 301 South State Street, Newtown.

The rain date for the tour is Sunday, Dec. 4.
