Giant Raises $36,000 in Breast Cancer Awareness Month Effort

As a result of the effort, $36,710 will be donated to organizations that support breast cancer research, education and awareness.

Giant and Martin's Food Stores turned green into pink for October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with $36,710 in donations to local organizations that support breast cancer research, education and awareness.

“Breast cancer affects so many of our shoppers and their families and we are proud to help raise awareness in our stores and support local organizations in the communities we serve in helping to find a cure,” said Jeff Beaulieu, vice president, sales and merchandising.

The following organizations are recipients of donations from Giant/Martin's"

• Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition - $20,150

• Susan G. Komen of Maryland - $4,155

• Susan G. Komen of West Virginia - $4,155

• Virginia Commonwealth University Massey Cancer Center, Richmond - $8,250

These funds are being donated as a result of the supermarket donating five cents of every pink reusable shopping bag sold throughout the month of October and partnerships with its own brands, General Mills and Proctor & Gamble.

“Once again, our customers embraced the campaign and generously purchased 64,000 pink reusable shopping bags throughout our operating areas,” Beaulieu said.

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Giant also ran several pink-related awareness initiatives in its stores. In-store pharmacies placed pink caps on prescriptions filled throughout the month of October.
