Car Show Returning To Newtown July 17

The Newtown Business and Professional Association will hold its annual Antique and Classic Car Show July 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There are usually lots of cars in Newtown on a summer Sunday.

But on July 17, some less common automobiles will be around between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Once again, the Newtown Business and Professional Association will hold its annual Antique and Classic Car Show, giving owners and enthusiasts the chance to check out some fancy wheels.

The show has an open registration policy for the first 200 cars. All owners of trucks, street rods, sports, and muscle cars from 1900 to 1986, as well as antique motorcycles, are welcome to participate.

“Enjoy a day of memories on State Street in Newtown with cars, trucks, motorcycles and friends,” said Charles Swartz, the show’s co-chairman. “The weather has always been sunny and dry but always hot.”

Twelve separate trophy divisions will be judged, with six based on year and the others being Corvettes, Muscle Cars, Sports Cars, Trucks, Street Rods and Special Interest. There will also be a “Best in Show” top prize. Judging will be done by owners.

“It is once again another great day for Newtown,” said Mick Petrucci, president of the Newtown Business and Professional Association. “We are very proud to be hosting this annual event in our bustling downtown business district. Newtown has many great eateries and shoppes along with our quaint and historical charm.”

The show will be held in the parking lot behind State Street that is between Washington Avenue and Centre Avenue. Check-in will start two hours prior to the start, though pre-registration is urged. A $15 fee, which increases to $25 from July 11 to the morning of the show, is required. Should it rain, the show will be held the following Sunday, July 24.

Gifts and hourly prize drawings will also be available for the duration of the show. For those looking to check out some of these special automobiles, a food court featuring Isaac Newton’s, The Brick Hotel, The Temperance House, Florentino’s and Becky’s Deli will also be open on State Street.
