The organizers behind the upcoming Old Acme Site Demo Party are looking for employees of the closed Sycamore Street store to attend the event.
"We are reaching out to any former Acme employees who may still be in the area to come out to the 'party' and be recognized by having their picture taken at the site," Linda Mitchell, marketing & public relations director for the Newtown Athletic Club, said in an email.
The building demolition will begin with a party of Saturday morning. Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. and will feature local dignitaries, light refreshments and activities for Newtown’s youngest residents.
"Progress on this site has been in the works for so long, and the old Acme was such a staple in Newtown for many years, that having some of the folks who worked there would add a wonderful element to the celebration," Mitchell said.
