Greenstraw Smoothies to Open Monday

Greenstraw Smoothies, located on Sycamore Street, will serve smoothies, healthy snacks, fresh fruit juices and more.

If you’re looking for a place to get a healthy snack or light meal in Newtown, you’ll have a new option come Monday.

Greenstraw Smoothies will open for business Monday, Feb. 18. A grand opening event is planned for early March, owner Kelly Anne Troy said.

The shop will be located on Sycamore Street, next to the Sycamore Grill and across the street from the Green Parrot. It will serve fruit smoothies, green smoothies and specialty smoothies, Troy said.

Greenstraw will also offer fresh juices, including wheatgrass, and whole food snacks, like yogurt parfaits, apples with peanut butter, vegetables and hummus, etc.

Troy, a Wrightstown resident, said she wanted to open Greenstraw Smoothies to provide more healthy eating options for Newtown residents.

“I have four children and there really was no place to stop and get something quick that’s healthy,” said Troy, who is also a health coach.

Troy said smoothies are a great way to start the day. “I drink a smoothie every morning,” she said. “It’s a great way first thing in the morning to get all those nutrients.”

Smoothies make good snacks, too, Troy said, adding they are a healthy replacement for a candy bar or coffee.

In addition to being good for you, Troy wants Greenstraw Smoothies to be good to Mother Earth. She said they plan to be eco-friendly by using organic products, composting and using green cleaning products and soaps.

“We are really trying to use organic whenever possible and local as much as possible,” she said, adding the fruit and vegetable peels will be composted at Anchor Run Farm in Wrightstown.

Greenstraw will open Monday at 8 a.m. To start, business hours will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The hours may be adjusted as the season changes, Troy noted.
