NAC to Debut Tram Service

In preparation for the opening of its outdoor pool complex, the Newtown Athletic Club is unveiling a tram service to transport its members throughout the facilities.

The 23-seat open air tram car will circulate the parking lot to drop off members at the front door, outdoor pool and back to their cars, explained NAC Director of Marketing and Public Relations Linda Mitchell. She noted there will be two trams running during peak hours.

“We will be running it during busy times on the weekends and heavily used afternoons to get parents with multiple kids in tow from the far parking lot to the new outdoor pool,” she explained.

However, some members did point out to NAC staff that walking shouldn’t be an issue at a health club.

“We couldn’t agree with them more,” Mitchell said. “However, the safety of our parents with children is an issue and we feel that the distance from the far lots to the outdoor pool merits this extra service.”

Plus, she said, the trams can be used at summer camps, special events and perhaps even during the January New Year’s rush.
