Promenade Sewer Plan to be Reviewed Wednesday

Officials say they hope a review of the sewer plans for The Promenade will provide further insight into the project's status.

Newtown Township officials hope a review of the sewer plans for The Promenade development that is on Wednesday’s agenda will provide further insight into the project's status.

The Promenade is a mixed-use development slated for the old Acme site on Sycamore Street. It will feature 20,000 square feet of retail space in two buildings, plus 26 one-bedroom apartment rental units.

Last summer, after years of decay, the abandoned and decrepit Acme supermarket was torn down. Work on the new development was initially supposed to get underway this spring, according to project investors. But progress seems to have stalled since Anthropologie pulled out as the complex’s anchor tenant.

Wednesday's Board of Supervisors agenda includes a “Planning Module Review” for The Promenade. But Chairman Mike Gallagher said he is unsure if the board will get further details about the project time line during the meeting.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at the township Administration Building. Click here to view the full agenda.

In January, project investor Jim Worthington said Anthropologie would no longer be the anchor tenant. At that time, Worthington said construction was still on track to begin this spring but he was seeking to finalize an agreement with a new anchor tenant.

Worthington did not respond to a recent request seeking information as to when construction would begin.
